MURANO UPCYCLING PROJECT | THE LIGHTING COLLECTION

The Meon Berard x Laguna B Lamps collection is a stunning fusion of artistry and sustainability. Crafted from upcycled Murano glass, these unique, totem-shaped lamps embody a philosophy of recycling beyond aesthetics. Inspired by the Memphis movement, each piece is meticulously assembled, making it a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

Marie Méon and Harold Berard are a creative couple working in the fields of design, art direction and food design. In 2021, during a residency in Venice, they noticed large quantities of glass scraps, a kind of spare parts, outside - and inside - the kilns of the master glassmakers they visited in Murano.

Abandoned, these dust-covered elements seem to be waiting for something - or someone. "We thought they would be there for eternity". After scouring kilns and workshops for usable pieces, they collected some, convinced that they could give them a second life. This is how the Murano upcycling concept was born, and the collaboration with Laguna~B, a Venetian publisher and committed glass producer, began.

The creative process is organic: pieces from different origins and periods were intuitively assembled. The function of these assemblages as luminaires emerges naturally, as a tribute to the heritage of historic Muranese chandeliers and candelabras.

Thanks to Laguna~B's expertise, it was decided to carry out all the assemblies mechanically, avoiding chemical gluing. Several local craftsmen contributed to the production process, including a blower (for the globes), a locksmith and an electrician, all of which further anchored the project at its source.

A possible alternative to the problem of production waste, combined with a responsible conscience, the Murano Upcycling luminaire collection imagines recycling as "a philosophy beyond aesthetics“.

Each piece is unique, signed and numbered.
